He Was My Staff! – Wike Shreds Amaechi’s Seniority Claims In Explosive Outburst

Amaechi, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, expressed dismay at Wike’s perceived disrespect, despite considering himself Wike’s senior and political mentor.

I don’t understand why he doesn’t respect people like us,” Amaechi said. “I’m older and I brought him into politics. Let the FCT Minister come and let’s take a walk from the airport to Port Harcourt — no police, no army, just the two of us.”

In a swift response on the same programme a day later, Wike dismissed Amaechi’s remarks, arguing that respect is earned through one’s character and integrity, not simply through age or political position.

“It’s really unfortunate,” Wike said. “Respect should come from the integrity you possess and the honour you uphold — not because you’re 200 years old. He can’t claim to be my senior, and it was unfair of him to make such a statement.”

Wike further rejected the idea that political advancement must follow a strict hierarchy based on age or experience.

“The fact that he was governor before me doesn’t mean he’s automatically superior. There’s no law that says seniority determines political succession. It is God who grants power to whomever He wills, at the time He deems fit. What matters is how you use that power to uplift others,” he added.
