1. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, escalated the political crisis in the state by announcing his intention to investigate the administration of his predecessor and political mentor, Nyesom Wike. Fubara, who previously served as the state’s Accountant-General during Wike’s tenure, disclosed that a judicial panel of inquiry would scrutinize the governance practices preceding his assumption of office on May 29 last year.
2. Organized Labour called for a complete reversal of the power sector privatization and the retrieval of all publicly-owned electricity assets. Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) made these demands while staging protests at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) offices in Abuja and electricity distribution companies (DisCos) nationwide.
