Heartbreak In Kaduna: Six JS3 Students Perish In Drowning Accident

Six Junior Secondary School students tragically drowned in the Mbang river in Ribang village, Kaduna State, while returning from writing their West African Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination. The incident occurred around 5:30 pm, plunging their families into deep mourning.

The victims, students of Government Secondary School Fadan Chawai, were identified as Manasseh Monday (16), Musa John (16), Pius David (15), Monday Ayuba (16), David Danlami (19), and Yahuza Audu (16). According to Pastor Simon Ishaku of the Ribang Development Association, three bodies have been recovered and buried, but three others remain missing in the river.

The Mbang river has been a longstanding hazard for the community, hindering access to essential services like schools and hospitals. Simon Ishaku urged urgent intervention from the Federal Government, Governor Uba Sani, Sen. Sunday Katung, and local representatives to provide critical infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, an access road, and a bridge to prevent such tragedies.

Attempts to reach the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer and the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency for confirmation and further details were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
