Eyuruntela, described as not being a proficient swimmer, failed to resurface after entering the water. A source informed the Daily Trust, “The outing took a devastating turn when Eyuruntela failed to resurface after entering the water. He must have been pushed in by one of his friends as he was not a good swimmer.”

The news of Eyuruntela’s tragic demise has left the community in shock and sorrow, especially among those who were familiar with him. A widow named Mille shared memories of Eyuruntela’s kindness, highlighting how he had assisted her in fetching water before embarking on the ill-fated outing with his friends.

Confirming the incident, a police officer at the divisional headquarters in Sapele mentioned that Eyuruntela’s friends who accompanied him to the river were currently in detention for questioning. The community now grapples with the loss of a young life and the somber circumstances surrounding the events leading to the unfortunate drowning.
