According to LIB, Hope was rescued in March 2024, severely malnourished and in a critical condition. In a Facebook post on Friday, Ringgren highlighted the grim reality: “Swipe to see baby Hope’s transformation. Consider this: 15,000 to 20,000 children are accused of witchcraft in Nigeria every year.”

She added that most of these children do not survive. The practice of accusing children of witchcraft is often used to explain misfortunes like illness, death, or divorce within families and communities. This belief, fueled by a lack of education and understanding of illnesses, leads people to seek superstitious explanations.

At Land of Hope, they care for over 100 children who have been accused of witchcraft. The organization operates on the principle that “it takes a village”—the idea that raising a child is a collective effort involving many people and resources. Ringgren expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing the importance of collective action in changing these harmful narratives.
