Elder Francis Amamosa, the esteemed Pioneer Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abavo Ward 10, tragically met his demise at the hands of suspected herdsmen. Despite their initial gunshots failing to subdue him, the septuagenarian ultimately succumbed to machete wounds. The news of his untimely death has sent shockwaves throughout the Abavo community in Delta State’s Ika South Local Government Area.

According to Vanguard, an eyewitness account shed light on the harrowing ordeal. Amamosa, alongside laborers, was diligently tending to yam planting on his farm. As he made his way to another section of the farm, intending to retrieve yams for planting, he encountered the herdsmen. Their sudden attack with cutlasses caused him to fall from his motorcycle, which subsequently toppled onto him. Despite the assailants resorting to gunfire, Amamosa displayed remarkable resilience amidst the onslaught, bravely enduring their assault.

Tragically, two other farmers fell victim to the herdsmen’s aggression, being kidnapped during the incident that transpired on April 29th, casting a pall of fear over the farming community. This disturbing event unfolded merely three days after another member of the community, a palm wine tapper, met a similarly gruesome fate, reportedly ambushed and killed by armed herders while working in the bush. Such recurring incidents have instilled a sense of dread among residents, underscoring the urgent need for heightened security measures to safeguard lives and livelihoods in the region.
