The meeting, which reportedly lasted about two hours at the Oyo State Secretariat, comes amid growing consultations among opposition figures ahead of possible political realignments.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Obi described the visit as part of wider consultations with key stakeholders on the future of the country. He said discussions with Makinde focused on shared concerns about building a Nigeria that works for all citizens.
According to Obi, the engagement was not driven by political maneuvering alone but by broader conversations about nation-building, unity and progress. He said both leaders share a commitment to a Nigeria where citizens have equal opportunities to succeed based on merit and hard work rather than personal connections.
The meeting came just days after a major opposition summit in Ibadan involving several prominent political figures, and also followed Obi’s recent visit to former President Goodluck Jonathan, fueling speculation about ongoing high-level political consultations.
Obi stressed that his focus remains on building a more inclusive and functional nation, repeating his vision of a Nigeria “where a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.”
He also underscored the need for economic reforms, advocating a shift from a consumption-driven economy to a production-based model that can create jobs and boost national productivity.
