Holy Row Erupts: Bishops Challenge Adeboye’s Sh*cking ‘Witch Cook’ Statement

Adeboye made the statement during the May edition of the Holy Ghost Service while addressing young men about choosing a spouse.

He warned against basing marital decisions solely on physical appearance, emphasizing that spiritual sensitivity and domestic ability should be prioritized over looks and social standing. According to him, outward beauty can be misleading.

“There are many demons that appear attractive. If you marry based on beauty alone, you may end up choosing wrongly. I’m not saying all beautiful people are demonic, but relying only on looks can be dangerous,” he said.

Referencing biblical figures such as Sarah and the Shunamite woman as examples of hospitality, Adeboye advised, “Do not marry a woman who cannot cook. This is sound counsel. Even if a prophet tells you she is your wife, if she cannot cook, decline.”

Responding to the remark, the group’s International Secretary, Osazee William, argued that such a condition is not supported by scripture.

“Is it a biblical requirement that a man should not marry a woman who cannot cook? Even men can cook—this is merely a personal opinion,” he said.

William maintained that qualities such as character, values, and godliness should be the key factors in choosing a life partner.

“The true standard for marriage is a person’s good character, godliness, and diligence,” he noted.

He also pointed out that cooking is a skill that can be acquired.

“What about someone who cooks well but lacks good character? Or someone who becomes so consumed with cooking that other values are neglected? Cooking ability does not define cleanliness or morality. A person can always learn—there are even cookbooks available. What truly matters is character,” he added.

William further highlighted changing social realities, noting that many women today are primary earners and may not always have time for domestic responsibilities.

“Many women are now breadwinners and may not have the time to cook. In such cases, hiring a cook is a practical option,” he said.

During the same programme, Adeboye also advised men to reconsider marriage plans if a potential partner insists on an extravagant wedding that could result in debt.

He additionally warned against excessive use of cosmetics, urging men to look beyond physical appearance.

“The woman you intend to marry should not rely heavily on makeup. You must ask yourself what lies beneath the surface,” he said.
