The House of Representatives has directed the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to extend the registration period for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by an additional two weeks. Shinkafi underscored the challenges faced during the UTME registration, which began on January 15 and was initially set to conclude on February 26, 2024. Economic difficulties in the nation have hindered numerous families from completing the registration for their children within the designated timeframe. Emphasizing the urgency of an extension from JAMB, Shinkafi highlighted the potential risk of many candidates being unable to register, leading to diminished coverage and participation in this year’s UTME nationwide.
Seeking the support of lawmakers, Shinkafi stressed that an extended registration period would encourage parents of underprivileged students to enroll their children for the examination. The House of Representatives not only urged JAMB to extend the registration by two weeks but also mandated the relevant committees on Education and Legislative Compliance to ensure strict adherence to this directive.
In the meantime, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the commencement of registration for the 2024 Direct Entry (DE) examination. Interested candidates are invited to purchase and register for the DE forms, with the registration process beginning on Wednesday, 28th February 2024, and concluding on Thursday, 28th March 2024.
