House of Representatives Rejects Motion To Halt Fuel Price Increase, Commences Investigation

The House justified its decision, stating that it had already committed to investigating the price increase and accepting the motion to halt the fuel price hike would preempt the work of the investigative committee.
The motion of ‘urgent public importance,’ brought forth by Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, prompted the House to summon the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, and oil marketers to appear before an ad hoc committee.
Their appearance is required to explain the reasons behind the fuel price surge and address concerns surrounding its effects on the public.
