House Of Reps Seeks Grace Period To Ease Tinted Glass Ban ImplementationThe House of Representatives has instructed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command to halt the enforcement of the tinted glass ban in the capital city, demanding a 90-day grace period to allow for proper public awareness.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In its resolution, the House also called for the return of vehicles that had been impounded and urged the police to cease further harassment of motorists. This decision followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance raised by Rep. Mukhtar Tolani Shagaya.

Additionally, the House directed the Committee on Police Affairs to engage with the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to establish clear and consistent enforcement guidelines for similar directives in the future.

The House also urged the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to launch a public awareness campaign. This campaign will aim to educate citizens on the new regulations, the process for obtaining necessary permits, and how to make the required modifications to their vehicles.

Rep. Shagaya explained that the ban on tinted glasses and covered number plates was introduced as part of efforts to combat rising criminal activities, including kidnapping, in the FCT. However, he highlighted that the enforcement of the ban has led to significant harassment of motorists and residents.

He also pointed out that the lack of adequate public awareness and insufficient time for vehicle owners to comply with the new rules had resulted in numerous vehicles being impounded, causing undue hardship for families and businesses in the area.
