The official summons, delivered through the President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), also extends to Mohbad’s manager and legal team.
Dated October 26 and signed by the Committee’s Clerk, Yusuf Ibrahim, the summons aims to shed light on the situation and provide guidance to the committee on potential legislative actions.
It’s worth noting that Mohbad passed away under suspicious circumstances on September 12. Subsequent investigations revealed that the late singer had filed police reports against Naira Marley and his friend, Sam Larry, alleging threats to his life and property following his departure from the record label.
The decision by the House of Representatives to intervene in the matter was triggered by a motion put forth by Lagos Representative Babajimi Benson.
The motion called for a review of the laws governing the entertainment industry and copyright, with a focus on the contracts and agreements often imposed on artists.
During the debate on the matter in the plenary session, lawmakers expressed their commitment to ensuring fair compensation and royalties for Mohbad’s musical works.
