Reflecting on his legacy, Sanusi referenced a prayer from the Quran by the prophet Ibrahim: “Grant me an honorable mention among those who come after.” He hopes that when people remember him, they will praise and pray for him rather than curse him. “That is my prayer,” he said, “that the people of Kano and Nigeria will remember me and say, ‘He was a good man. God, have mercy on him.'”

Sanusi remarked that leadership often ends in one of two ways: being cursed and blamed, or being remembered and prayed for. “You’ve seen leaders who, even in their lifetime after leaving office, people already say, ‘God will not forgive you.’ I do not want that,” he added. “I wish to be remembered as someone who left this world with people praying for me for good.”
