Human Trafficking Scare In Oyo As Police Rescue Five Foreign Nationals From Hotel

The Oyo State Police Command has rescued five Congolese nationals suspected of being victims of human trafficking during an intelligence-led operation at Bollarz Hotel in the Araromi area of Ibadan.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the police carried out the operation following credible intelligence about a suspected trafficking incident, prompting the Commissioner of Police to direct operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to take immediate action.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

The rescued individuals were identified as Bonsaly Mpika Donel, 24; Charles Siloe, 23; Eliane Ruth Makengo, 26; Makota Janie Darcel, 23; and Simba Babeki Elie, 33. All five are citizens of the Republic of Congo.

According to the police, preliminary questioning indicated that a man identified as Smith, reportedly a national of the Republic of Benin, allegedly lured the victims into Nigeria with promises of better economic opportunities and improved living conditions.

However, the suspect was reportedly absent from the hotel when police operatives conducted the rescue operation. The command said efforts were ongoing to locate and arrest him.

Following their rescue, the five individuals received medical attention and underwent medical examinations. The Commissioner of Police subsequently directed that they be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service in Oyo State for further action in line with established procedures.

The police command reiterated its commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation. It also urged members of the public to provide credible information that could help investigators identify and apprehend those allegedly involved in the suspected trafficking operation.

Residents with relevant information can contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on the toll-free number 615 or reach the police command’s control room through 08081768614 or 07055495413.
