Hunters in a Benue community have reportedly rescued a baby believed to have been buried alive in the Buruku Local Government Area of the state.
According to a resident identified only as Terna, the incident occurred in the Ashav Kusuv community.
Terna explained that the hunters discovered the baby and brought her out from the forest where she had allegedly been buried alive.
“On Saturday, some hunters found a baby girl, claiming they had unearthed her from a forest where she was buried alive,” he recounted.
Currently, the baby is receiving care within the Ashav Kusuv community, Terna added.
Confirming the incident, Iorkyaan Agber, the Chairman of the local government, informed reporters on Sunday that hunters indeed located the baby in a forest.
Agber stated, “Certainly, some hunters discovered a baby in the forest. However, we are conducting an investigation to ascertain who abandoned the baby in the forest and the motive behind such an act.”
Efforts to contact the Benue Police Spokesperson, Catherine Anene, for further details were unsuccessful as her phone went unanswered at the time of this report.
