In a press statement, HURIWA emphasized its ongoing support for the Nigerian government’s efforts to restore peace in the South-East but expressed deep concern over the methods used by security agencies. The group alleged that these methods have led to the indiscriminate killing of innocent Igbo youths under the guise of targeting IPOB members.

HURIWA criticized the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for its inability to provide an impartial assessment, advocating instead for a high-powered investigative team from the UNHRC.
