Husband Arrested Following Court’s Ruling Clearing Commissioner Of AdulteryA day after Auwal Sankara, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, was acquitted of adultery charges by an Upper Shariah Court, police in Kano arrested Nasir Buba, the estranged husband of the woman at the center of the allegations, Tasleem Baba-Nabegu. The case began when Buba filed a complaint with Kano’s Hisbah operatives, accusing Sankara of having an extramarital affair with his wife. This led to Sankara’s arrest by Hisbah officials, and Buba later pursued the matter in a Shariah court.

On Monday, Judge Ibrahim Sarki-Yola dismissed the case, citing an investigation by the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 1, Kano, which found insufficient evidence to substantiate the adultery claim. Despite this, on Tuesday, Buba was arrested by the police on charges of cyberstalking his wife.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that Buba had reportedly obtained evidence, including videos, pictures, and voice recordings from his wife’s phone, which he believed would support his claims against Sankara. Some expressed concerns about the police’s handling of the case, suggesting that Buba’s substantial evidence was overlooked in favor of clearing the commissioner.

When reached for comment, Kano State police spokesperson Abdullahi Kiyawa stated he was unaware of the arrest but promised to investigate the matter. “I have not been briefed about this development. Even the previous matter was handled by the AIG office in Zone 1. I will confirm if this arrest occurred,” Kiyawa said.

Meanwhile, the Jigawa State Government announced the reinstatement of Commissioner Auwal Sankara on Tuesday, following his acquittal in the adultery case.
