I Believed Inviting Obasanjo To Commission Projects In Rivers Would Humiliate You” – Wike Hits Back At Odili
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has fired back at former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili, stating that Odili was the reason he did not invite former President Olusegun Obasanjo to commission projects during his tenure.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Wike made this remark during the Special Thanksgiving Service organized by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, at the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Oro-Igwe/Eliogbolo Archdeaconry Church of the Holy Spirit, Eliozu Parish, Port Harcourt, on Sunday. This was in response to Odili’s criticism of Wike, accusing him of treating the state like a “private estate.”
Wike claimed that Odili had aspired to the presidency but was thwarted by Obasanjo, leading him to abandon his presidential bid. He said, “This is a man who wanted to run for president, but he didn’t have the courage. He chickened out simply because Obasanjo told him he would not contest. Because of that, I never invited Obasanjo to Rivers State to commission projects. I felt it would humiliate him.”
Wike also expressed his surprise at Odili’s support for a governor he had once deemed unfit to lead the state. He continued, “When I was considering who would be the next governor after me, was Odili part of it? At the time, he criticized the current governor, saying he couldn’t address the public. But now, he’s organizing Christmas carols for the very governor he opposed.”
He further emphasized his contributions, saying, “I named projects after you, named things after your wife. What else have I not done? You said we shouldn’t be part of the government, we’ve moved on. We’re managing well. You’ve taken assembly money, they’re not starving, and they won’t starve. I’m doing my job in Abuja, and all this sycophancy won’t take you to the level I’ve reached.”
