I Can Go Six Months Without Calling My Children – Kunle Afod Speaks On Family And Career

Published

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod has stated that he would rather sacrifice his marriage or any personal relationship than abandon his acting career, stressing that his passion for the entertainment industry remains his top priority.

The actor made this known during an interview with Kasnasty Sugar on YouTube on Thursday, November 5, 2026, where he spoke about the challenges creative professionals face when balancing their careers with family relationships.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Afod explained that acting is more than a profession to him, describing it as a calling he believes he was born to fulfil. He maintained that people who are deeply passionate about their creative pursuits often struggle to prioritise romantic relationships over their careers.

The filmmaker noted that partners of entertainers sometimes perceive their professional commitments as competition for attention and affection, making it difficult for them to understand the demands of the industry.

Afod further disclosed that he had an opportunity to relocate abroad several years ago but declined the offer because he was unwilling to abandon his acting career.

He also revealed that his dedication to work sometimes affects his communication with his children, admitting that he could go as long as six months without contacting them.

Emphasising his commitment to the profession, the actor insisted that nobody could stand in the way of his career, regardless of the personal sacrifices involved.

He said, “I was born for this and I will die for it.”

Afod added that people who genuinely love their creative work would find it difficult to give it up for their spouses, arguing that only those who are not deeply passionate about acting would consider abandoning the profession for a relationship.
