I Chose Tinubu On Purpose!” – Ex-TVC Host Morayo Brown Reveals Why She Backed Him In 2023

Former Your View host and current Managing Director of TVC Entertainment, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, has disclosed that her decision to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 elections was a deliberate and personal choice.

Speaking on the With Chude podcast hosted by Chude Jideonwo, Afolabi-Brown explained that her family’s long-standing relationship with Tinubu largely shaped her decision.

She recalled how Tinubu, as Lagos State Governor, supported her family during her father’s illness.

“My father was President of the Nigerian Bar Association and a human rights activist. When he was very ill, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu stood by my mother. He helped with medical bills and supported my family when things were tough. He even guided my brother in politics,” she said.

However, she clarified that her career achievements were earned on merit, not through Tinubu’s influence.

“It wasn’t through him I got my job at TVC. My employment had nothing to do with Asiwaju. I got there purely on merit,” she stressed.

Why She Joined Tinubu’s Campaign

Afolabi-Brown revealed that she was formally invited by the women’s wing of Tinubu’s campaign and chose to accept.

“I had two choices: say no or support him. Since I genuinely supported him, I decided to do it openly. I joined the media team, and it turned out to be a worthwhile experience,” she explained.

While acknowledging public concerns about her neutrality as a journalist, she insisted that TVC remained objective despite perceptions.

“Perception is reality, but I still believe TVC is one of the most objective stations in Nigeria,” she maintained.

Proud of Your View Legacy

Reflecting on her exit from her popular talk show Your View, which she created and ran for 12 years, Afolabi-Brown expressed pride in the platform’s influence.

“We marked 12 years in May. I’m proud of the work the team has done and even more proud that many others have replicated the format,” she said.
