Speaking at an interfaith breaking of fast with Senators at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu acknowledged that critics have the right to voice their opinions but stressed that he played no role in weakening opposition parties.

He stated, “Critics will always have something to say. They accused me of ‘killing the opposition,’ but I didn’t have a gun. I could have even given myself a licence when I had the authority. But I cannot blame anyone for leaving a sinking ship.”

The President emphasized that those who joined the APC did so voluntarily and that he never abused his office or applied force against any political group.

Tinubu Urges Unity Amid Security Challenges

Tinubu also called on Nigerians to come together in addressing the country’s security challenges, including terrorism and banditry.

He said, “The threats we have faced—terrorism, banditry—are wreaking havoc on our nation. We must unite, just as our forefathers envisioned, to strengthen constitutional democracy. They never advocated fighting among ourselves. Harmony is key.”

Describing Nigeria as heavily challenged by insurgency and criminal activities, Tinubu warned that urgent constitutional reforms are necessary to protect vulnerable citizens and secure the nation’s forests from criminal elements.

He urged the National Assembly to initiate constitutional amendments that would allow the creation of state police, noting that such a reform would bolster the country’s security architecture and improve responses to emerging threats.

The President called on lawmakers to prioritize these reforms as part of broader efforts to stabilise the country and reinforce democratic governance.
