I Endured In Silence’ – Victim Of Domestic Violence Seen In Viral Video Speaks For The First Time

Cynthia, a woman from Kiambu County, Kenya, who was seen being assaulted by her husband in viral home CCTV footage, has finally spoken out about the incident and her life afterward.

The footage, which circulated widely, captured her now ex-husband physically attacking her in their kitchen — throwing milk at her, hitting her with a cup, and slapping her while angrily pointing at her.

In an interview with Kenyan news outlet TUKO, Cynthia revealed that the assault occurred on December 25, 2024, after their househelp abruptly left without informing anyone.

“I told him the househelp had left with her belongings. He asked for her number to call her, but I read one digit wrong, and the call went to someone else. That’s when he became enraged and started hitting me,” she recounted.

She added that the child who tried to defend her in the video is not her biological child but her stepson, whom she has raised lovingly since he was just eight months old. The little girl seen running away in fear is her biological daughter, who is less than two years old.

Cynthia left the marriage two days after the incident but briefly returned before leaving permanently.

“The relationship was toxic and abusive. I finally left for good with my daughter. I know many people have been wondering how I’m doing since the video went viral — I want to say I’m okay,” she assured.

Following the online outrage, Cynthia visited the Thika Police Station, where her estranged husband also showed up. However, police informed her that because the incident happened in December 2024, a formal report could not be filed. Both parties agreed to stay away from each other, and he will be allowed to see his daughter a few times a week.

“Right now, I just need a job to take care of myself and my daughter. If there’s any well-wisher out there who can help, I’d truly appreciate it,” Cynthia appealed.
