Moreover, she boasts a statuesque height that naturally garners attention. However, instead of receiving admiration and advances from men, Tracy often finds that her towering stature intimidates them, standing at over 6 feet tall.
Addressing this, she states, “Men accuse me of being a snob, but I am not.” In an interview with Saturday Vanguard following her recent appointment as one of the new Special Advisers to the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Chief Emeka Rollas, on Gender Equality, Tracy Edwin opens up about her encounters with men and her decision to take a break from acting for six years before returning to the craft in 2009.
Here are some highlights from the interview:
AGN President, Chief Emeka Rollas, has appointed you as SSA on Gender Equality. How do you plan to approach this new responsibility?
This is a subject matter I am deeply familiar with, and I am pleased that AGN has chosen to address it. In our society, particularly in Nollywood, there is a noticeable disparity in opportunities between male and female crew members. Female professionals are often overlooked for roles such as directing and DOP. I believe it is time to provide women with more opportunities to showcase their talents. Through platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, I intend to amplify the voices of women. Additionally, in my own movie productions, I will prioritize giving women the chance to demonstrate their abilities and receive equal compensation compared to their male counterparts.
Do you believe women are being marginalized in Nollywood?
I don’t believe so, as it largely depends on one’s standing within the industry. Similar disparities exist in other sectors, such as banking, where individuals’ experiences vary based on their position.
