During the book launch, Tinubu praised his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, for his courageous assumption of power in 2015 during a critical period of heightened terrorism in the country. Tinubu acknowledged the challenging circumstances faced by Buhari upon taking office, including a spiraling economy and the control of parts of the North East by Boko Haram.

Tinubu recalled significant security challenges, including attacks in Abuja, which posed a threat to the capital’s security. Despite the progress made in reclaiming territory from Boko Haram, Tinubu emphasized that the task of securing the entire country is not complete.

President Tinubu pledged to eliminate the remnants of Boko Haram, Ansaru, and other criminal groups, underscoring the government’s commitment to rooting out all agents of darkness. He acknowledged the need to continue efforts to make the country more secure.

Reflecting on President Buhari’s achievements, Tinubu highlighted the administration’s focus on infrastructure development. Notable projects mentioned included the second Niger Bridge, the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Lagos-Ibadan and Warri-Itakpe rail lines, completion of the Abuja-Kaduna rail line, and the Lekki Seaport.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to receive his predecessor, Tinubu pledged to continue and complete projects initiated during Buhari’s tenure. He emphasized the commitment to resolving any outstanding challenges faced during Buhari’s administration, with a promise to make the country better and foster economic prosperity.

In reaction to President Tinubu’s vow to crush “agents of darkness,” Shehu Sani shared his perspective on Twitter, stating: “The President said he will crush Bandits and other ‘agents of darkness,’ I hope it’s not the Discos,” injecting a touch of humor into the serious discourse on national security.
