I Never Had A Heart Attack In London – Wike Breaks Silence On Rumors

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has debunked rumors claiming he suffered a heart attack during his recent trip to London.

Speaking on Thursday at the flag-off of the Arterial Road N1 project connecting Wuye District to Ring Road II in Abuja, Wike explained that he only traveled abroad to take a short holiday after months of nonstop work.

Recent reports had alleged that the former Rivers State governor was hospitalized in London following a heart attack, a claim that stirred concerns given his key political role in both the FCT and Rivers.

Wike, however, dismissed the speculation, insisting that his health is intact and that the trip was purely for rest.

“Since I became minister, I’ve barely had time to step away. This time, I traveled without files or work documents—just to relax. Yet before I knew it, rumors spread that I was sick, even that I had a heart attack,” he said.

He went on to criticize those peddling falsehoods for playing politics with personal matters, adding with sarcasm:
“God will continue to help them have a heart attack. My prayer is that I’ll be the one to sign their condolences someday.”

Wike also reminded Nigerians that public service requires balance, noting that leaders must take time to rest even while delivering on their mandates.

“Politics in this country has become so toxic that people fabricate anything. Someone writes that you’re in the hospital without even knowing where you are, and it spreads. That is the unfortunate level we are in,” he lamented.

He nevertheless assured Abuja residents of his unwavering commitment to the infrastructure renewal agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
