I Regret Going To School – Nigerian Man Tears BSc, NYSC Certificates
A Nigerian man has sparked reactions on social media after expressing frustration with his educational journey by tearing his university degree certificate, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate and O’level result.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the man displayed the documents in a video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, before proceeding to destroy them in an apparent expression of disappointment over his experience with formal education.
In the video, he identified his Bachelor of Science (BSc) certificate as a second-class upper degree in psychology, describing the documents as his original copies.
While tearing the certificates, the visibly frustrated man declared that he no longer wanted to be regarded as a graduate, insisting that his years of education had not produced the benefits he expected.
“I want to be an illiterate. I don’t want to be a graduate again. I regret going to school; it didn’t help me,” he said while displaying his academic documents.
The incident has generated conversations online about the expectations associated with higher education, graduate unemployment and the challenges some Nigerians face after completing their studies.
Although the circumstances behind the man’s outburst remain unclear, his actions have drawn attention to the frustration that can arise when the opportunities expected from academic qualifications appear difficult to achieve.
His decision to tear his certificates has also prompted discussions about the value of education and the importance of addressing the economic and employment challenges confronting graduates.
