I Visited Him Every Sunday — Woman Reveals Painful Divorce After Husband’s Release From Prison
A businesswoman identified as Shanae Tamika has advised women to reconsider staying in relationships with men who are incarcerated, regardless of how long the relationship has lasted.
Tamika gave the advice while reflecting on her own experience after her husband divorced her following his release from prison, despite her efforts to support him throughout his incarceration.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Tamika revealed in a Facebook post that she regularly travelled to another county every Sunday to visit her husband while he was serving his prison sentence.
She said she was devastated after discovering that her husband had initiated divorce proceedings and had taken steps to have the necessary documents prepared for her signature.
“Signing divorce papers…at 7AM…for a second time in 2 years. Not picked up by me but by the man that I loved more than life itself,” she wrote.
Tamika said the experience was particularly painful because she had previously prayed for her husband’s happiness, even if they were eventually not meant to remain together.
She recalled leaving church every Sunday to make the trip to Harford County to visit him during his incarceration, believing she was standing by the man she loved.
However, after seeing the divorce documents, she said she realised that her husband had not only visited a courthouse to initiate the process but had also taken steps to indicate where she was expected to sign the papers.
Reflecting on the situation, Tamika described herself as someone who had endured the challenges of the relationship without considering divorce herself.
She subsequently shared a series of personal relationship lessons, urging women to prioritise themselves and reconsider remaining in relationships where their partners face serious setbacks or where the dynamics of the relationship become unhealthy.
“Never hold a down!! Leave him when he goes to jail, even if yall were together years before,” she wrote.
Tamika also advised women to be cautious about relationships in which they earn significantly more than their partners or have greater ambition and drive.
“Leave him when you start making more money than him. Don’t fuck with him if you have more hustle than him,” she added.
She further warned women about becoming involved with men whose relationships with their mothers are strained, suggesting that unresolved family dynamics could create additional difficulties in a romantic relationship.
Her comments have generated discussions about loyalty, sacrifice, financial differences and the challenges that can arise when couples face major life changes.
