Mohammed disclosed that his wife and family members faced both online and offline harassment during that time. Speaking in an interview with AIT ahead of the release of a book documenting his experiences under the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, he recounted that the businesses of his wife and children were boycotted by some Nigerians amid the unrest.

The former minister added that the pressure from the protests nearly led him to resign.

He said, “My wife and children were bullied both online and offline. Their businesses were boycotted, and they were deeply unhappy, feeling I had brought all this upon them. We even held a family meeting and agreed that I should step down.”

Mohammed explained that his dedication to serving the nation, rather than the perks of office, ultimately kept him in his role.

He further clarified misconceptions about ministerial earnings, noting that no minister earned up to ₦900,000 per month during his tenure.

“People often exaggerate the benefits of holding office. During my time, my total monthly earnings, including feeding and housing allowances, were N860,000. Serving is an honour, but being a minister does not solve all your problems,” he said.
