Senator Kingibe made these remarks on Sunday in response to criticisms from former AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore. Sowore had accused her of making politically motivated statements about the police’s violent response to peaceful protesters at Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Saturday.

Sowore also criticized her for allegedly using ChatGPT-generated content in her statement, questioning the authenticity of her claims about the violence.

In her response, Senator Kingibe clarified that she does not condone the actions of the police and stressed that the protest was peaceful. She addressed accusations that she was behind the hunger protest and reiterated that protest is a fundamental democratic right. She explained that her call for dialogue aims to reduce casualties and find solutions, asserting that the police should protect, not intimidate, protesters.
