She reaffirmed her dedication to justice and women’s rights, clarifying that her stance was not to undermine the allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio but to ensure the pursuit of truth. She emphasized that while she stands firmly against all forms of violence against women, she cannot support falsehood under the guise of advocacy.
In a statement addressed to Nigerians, Kingibe assured the public that she would play a leading role in championing Akpoti-Uduaghan’s case once it reaches the Senate floor. She acknowledged the growing concerns surrounding the matter and sought to clarify misconceptions about her initial position, emphasizing that she had not been aware of the claims beforehand.
“As the Senator representing the FCT and Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, I recognize the public concern over this issue. I want to assure Nigerians that I remain committed to fighting against all forms of sexual harassment and assault. Once a formal accusation is brought before the Senate, it must be thoroughly investigated through proper institutional mechanisms,” she stated.
Kingibe further highlighted the alarming prevalence of sexual harassment in homes and workplaces, stressing that it is a societal problem requiring collective action regardless of gender, ethnicity, or religion.
She assured that the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, which she leads, would continue to serve as a beacon of hope for women, promoting equality, fairness, and justice. She called for an open, transparent, and fair investigation into the allegations, insisting that justice must prevail for all, regardless of status or position.
“I remain fully committed to protecting the rights and dignity of women and girls across Nigeria,” Kingibe declared.
