I Won’t Spoil Them!” – Oga Bello Reveals Why His Children Will Get No Property
Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, has revealed that he has no intention of leaving behind houses or material wealth for his children.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a recent interview with the Nigerian Tribune, the celebrated thespian stated that instead of accumulating properties, he chose to invest in something he considers far more valuable—education.
Oga Bello, who is married to two wives and is the father of 18 children, said he made a deliberate decision early in life to prioritize giving his children quality education over amassing assets.
“I don’t want to leave any properties for my children,” he said. “I only need two houses—one in Lagos and one in my hometown. If there’s any money left in my account, they can share it. What matters to me is that they are educated.”
The seasoned actor, whose career began in 1964 with the Young Concert Party led by the late Baba Mero, explained that his own lack of parental support in his educational journey shaped this philosophy.
“Even if it’s just a first degree, I wanted every one of my children to be educated,” he said.
Oga Bello also clarified that he never pressured any of his children into joining the entertainment industry. Instead, he supported them only after they showed genuine interest—and proved their commitment through academic performance.
“I didn’t force them into acting. When they asked to follow me to rehearsals, I would only allow it if they had good results in school. That pushed them to work hard,” he added.
Reflecting on ageing and retirement, Oga Bello shared some personal thoughts about growing older in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
“Old age comes with its own challenges. Preparing for it is a personal responsibility. Unfortunately, in Nigeria, many professions don’t take it seriously. I chose to invest in my children so they can care for me in my old age.”
