El-Rufai has remained in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) since February 19, 2026, over allegations relating to his tenure as governor. He is also facing trial, while reports of health concerns and the arrest of his personal physician have sparked criticism from members of the ADC and some political figures.

Reacting in a post on his X account, Olarenwaju described El-Rufai as a politician known for combining strategic thinking with practical execution.

According to him, the former governor is not only capable of developing political strategies but is also willing to take direct responsibility for difficult assignments regardless of his status.

He argued that the ICPC would eventually have no legal justification to continue detaining the former governor, expressing confidence that the circumstances surrounding the case would ultimately become clearer.

“What makes El-Rufai unique in Nigeria’s politics is his clear-headedness and depth of strategic thought with tactical implementation balance,” Olarenwaju wrote.

He added that El-Rufai is prepared to personally undertake difficult political tasks when necessary, saying that quality distinguishes him from many other political leaders.

Olarenwaju further expressed solidarity with the former governor, maintaining that the truth surrounding his detention would eventually emerge.
