If Roles Were Reversed, Many Men Would Break – Chioma Ahaghotu Sparks Debate

Media personality, Chioma Amaryllis Ahaghotu, has argued that many men would be unable to cope with the very responsibilities they expect women to shoulder.

According to her, beyond pregnancy, childcare, and homemaking, men still expect women to contribute financially, yet they would never agree to swap roles because they know it’s an “unequal bargain.”

She wrote:

“If you really think about it, many men would not survive under the same conditions they impose on women.

They expect financial contributions.

They expect women to get pregnant, carry a child for nine months, risk their health, bodies, and even their lives.

They expect them to raise children, manage the home, handle endless invisible labor, and remain faithful even when their own needs aren’t met, even when they’re stretched beyond measure.

If men were asked, ‘Would you switch places with a woman for just one year under those same expectations?’ most would instantly say no. They wouldn’t volunteer for it.

And that’s the irony: the very life women are told is ‘normal’ or ‘expected’ is one men themselves would never choose if given the option.

Why? Because deep down, they know it’s an unequal bargain. The sacrifices are greater, the demands unrelenting, and the recognition minimal.

Instead of addressing this imbalance, society normalizes it—women are told to endure, while men benefit.

The uncomfortable truth is this: if men wouldn’t willingly step into women’s shoes, then it’s proof that those lives require extraordinary strength. And it’s also proof that the standards women are held to are unfair, man-made, and capable of being dismantled.”
