IGP Egbetokun Shakes Up Abuja Police Command Ahead Of FCT Council Polls

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the redeployment of Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) throughout the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of Saturday’s Area Council elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the move on Friday in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye.

According to the statement, the redeployment follows the IGP’s directive and forms part of proactive measures and a comprehensive security plan designed to enhance operational effectiveness while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism before, during, and after the elections.

“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, under the instruction of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reshuffled and redeployed Divisional Police Officers across the FCT in preparation for the Area Council Elections scheduled for Saturday, 21st February 2026,” the statement read.

CP Dantawaye also urged the redeployed officers to perform their duties with professionalism, impartiality, and dedication.

The Police assured the public of their readiness for the elections and reiterated their commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and credible voting process.

Residents were reminded of the restriction of movement and urged to remain law-abiding.

“The FCT Police Command calls on all residents to stay peaceful, law-abiding, and actively participate in the democratic process by exercising their civic duty on Election Day.

“A restriction of movement will be in effect across the FCT from 8:00 PM on 20th February 2026 to 6:00 PM on 21st February 2026, except for essential service providers and election officials.

“Residents are also encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities to the FCT Police Command via the emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938,” the statement added.
