In a related development, the Federal Government has declared all 256 custodial centers across the country as “red zones” ahead of the August 1st nationwide protest. This designation, announced by Controller General of Corrections Hailey Nababa in a statement on Tuesday, underscores the importance of safeguarding these facilities.
The statement, released through service spokesman Abubakar Danlami Umar, warns that any interference with the custodial centers will be met with strict consequences. Nababa stressed that these centers are vital for public safety and national security, and any disruption could lead to further security challenges.
The Nigerian Correctional Service has put in place extensive security measures to protect these facilities, and the Ministry of Interior Joint Taskforce (MOIJTF) has been activated to provide additional security around custodial sites nationwide.
