Illegal Gas Stations Shut Down By NMDPRA In Taraba, Imo Regions

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has taken decisive action by closing down unauthorized oil and gas facilities in Taraba and Imo States. Surveillance officers from NMDPRA recently shut down Saismo General Merchants Limited in Jalingo, Taraba State, where an incomplete building was being used for the illegal sale of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Similarly, NMDPRA reported on the closure of Udeking Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited along Owerri/Aba Road, Naze, Imo State. The company was sealed for operating without a valid license, following the earlier closure in December of Oxkings Petroleum Limited on Owerri-Port Harcourt Road, Avu, Imo State. Oxkings Petroleum Limited was sealed for under-dispensing of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by 470mls per litre, as disclosed by NMDPRA.

NMDPRA, responsible for regulating midstream and downstream petroleum operations in Nigeria, including technical, operational, and commercial activities, is the result of the merger of three defunct regulatory agencies: the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, the Petroleum Equalisation Fund (Management) Board, and the Midstream and Downstream Divisions of the Department of Petroleum Resources.

In a related incident, NMDPRA sealed and arrested the operator of an illegal gas outlet in Warri metropolis, Delta State. The illicit gas outlet, situated within a residential building at Lower Axis, Warri South Local Government Area, was discovered to have tampered with the seal previously placed on its facility. The regulatory authority promptly apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the Nigeria Police for prosecution.
