I’m Glowing After Suspension’ – Fubara Reveals Why He’s Desperate To Reclaim Governorship

The embattled Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has revealed that his only motivation to return to office stems from the loyalty and sacrifices of individuals like the late elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark. He noted that since his suspension, he has found peace and even experienced physical rejuvenation.

Speaking on Sunday at a Night of Tributes held in honour of the late Chief Clark by the Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum, Fubara acknowledged the unwavering support he has received from many quarters. The event took place at the Royal House of Grace Church in Port Harcourt.

“If it were entirely up to me, I wouldn’t return,” Fubara admitted. “But people like the late Chief Clark made great sacrifices for me. That is why I must stand by them.”

Addressing some politically tinged remarks made earlier during the programme, Fubara urged restraint, warning against misrepresenting the memorial as a political rally aimed at his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, or President Bola Tinubu.

“This is the first time I’m speaking publicly since the events of March 18. I’ve chosen my words carefully in other gatherings because the tone sometimes doesn’t reflect my beliefs,” he said. “But I couldn’t miss this because Pa Clark meant a lot to me. My being here is my most meaningful tribute to him.”

He stressed that the event was meant to honour Pa Clark’s legacy of peace, justice, and selfless service, and should not be hijacked for political purposes.

“Let’s be clear—this isn’t about Sim Fubara,” he added. “Even though I respect the words of the bishop, today is not for political statements. I don’t want anyone leaving here claiming that I assembled people to attack the minister or the President. That’s far from my intention.”

Reflecting on his time away from office, Fubara remarked: “Look at me—I’m healthier, and I’ve found peace. If I had my way, I wouldn’t even go back. Not all battles are worth fighting. Let’s remain focused and ask ourselves: does he really want to return?”

He concluded by encouraging attendees to uphold the ideals that Pa Clark stood for—peace, sacrifice, and unity.
