I’m Here To Serve, Not To Seek Wealth – President Tinubu Declares

The President highlighted that despite ongoing challenges, his administration remains focused on delivering concrete results, particularly in areas like infrastructure, food and energy security, education, and long-term economic stability.

The Forum, led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, included 15 former senior officials of the National Assembly, such as former Senate presidents, House speakers, and their deputies. In his address to them, Tinubu stated, “I didn’t come to seek wealth or exploit the situation; I came to work. I asked for votes, and Nigerians entrusted me with their mandate.”

He expressed appreciation for the Forum’s support, regardless of political affiliation, and called for continued unity and cooperation in achieving national development goals. Tinubu also urged stronger collaboration between the legislative and executive branches to deliver prosperity for the nation.

“Despite the challenges of the present and differences of the past, you still believe in me and our shared vision for this country. I thank you deeply for your confidence. I have traveled the world and seen how developed nations have achieved progress through collaboration, inclusiveness, and sound financial structures,” Tinubu remarked.

The President reflected on Nigeria’s past missteps, particularly neglecting oil-producing communities and failing to invest in education. He called for a renewed focus on improving living standards and creating a conducive learning environment for children, stressing that “school enrolment can only improve if we provide the necessary encouragement.”

Tinubu reiterated his administration’s focus on addressing key challenges, such as improving infrastructure, enforcing financial regulations, exploring alternative energy sources, and ensuring energy security. “We’ve come this far, and I promise to do my utmost to address these issues,” he added.

The President encouraged the former presiding officers to continue sharing their expertise in governance and national development, acknowledging their unique ability to offer insights into Nigeria’s current state.

Speaking on behalf of the Forum, Senator Nnamani noted that Nigeria’s present challenges are not the making of Tinubu’s administration and assured the group’s support. He congratulated Tinubu on his leadership and recognized the burden of tackling pervasive insecurity, economic downturn, and infrastructure decay, issues that have built up over years.

“Mr. President, history is never the burden of one person alone, but some are called to bear a special share of its challenges. While these problems are not of your creation, it falls upon you to address them. With your experience, we believe you can lead the nation through these difficulties,” Nnamani stated.

The Forum expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, citing his decisive stance on local government autonomy as an example of his capacity for reform. They pledged their continued support for his efforts to restore national security, revitalize the economy, and foster unity among Nigeria’s diverse population.
