A Federal High Court in Abuja has slated April 19th for the hearing of a lawsuit brought by Philip Shaibu, the recently impeached Deputy Governor of Edo State. This legal action targets the state’s house of assembly and other parties involved in his impeachment process.
Justice Inyang Ekwo presided over preliminary discussions on Friday, with Alex Ejesieme, SAN, and other defense attorneys appearing to request a hearing date. Although the case, identified as FHC/ABJ/CS/405/24, wasn’t initially on the day’s docket, the proactive approach of the defense team ensured their matter was addressed.
The hearing date was slightly delayed due to a public holiday, which led to the court’s closure on the originally scheduled date.
Addressing the court, one of the defense lawyers noted their presence was in compliance with previous court instructions, stating, “So in obedience to court, we came today.”
However, Justice Ekwo clarified that he couldn’t proceed with a case not currently listed, instructing the lawyers to coordinate with the court registrar to secure the next available date, which was then set for April 19th.
