Impeachment Drama Unfolds As Shaibu Claims Non-Receipt Of Notice From EDHA....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Philip Shaibu, has refuted claims made by the Speaker, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, during a recent plenary session at the state House of Assembly. Agbebaku asserted that Shaibu was served with an impeachment notice, and due to the alleged inability to physically serve him, the notice was published in newspapers through substituted service.

In a letter dated March 12, 2024, and titled “RE: Service of Impeachment Notice,” Shaibu, through his Personal Assistant Charles Olubayo, denied ever receiving the alleged impeachment notice. Shaibu clarified that he has been out of the state since March 3, making it impossible for him to have been served during the claimed plenary session.

The letter emphasized that the inaccuracies and misleading information regarding the purported service of the impeachment notice were raised during the March 11, 2024 plenary session. It refuted Speaker Agbebaku’s statements that the Deputy Governor had refused to acknowledge an earlier impeachment notice sent through the Clerk of the House.

The letter stated, “We wish to state categorically that no impeachment notice was ever served on the Deputy Governor, let alone refusing to acknowledge the impeachment notice.” Shaibu’s absence from Benin since March 3 was highlighted, challenging the Speaker’s claims about the Deputy Governor’s refusal to acknowledge the notice sent through the Clerk.

Shaibu’s office expressed surprise at the decision to publish the impeachment notice in newspapers, considering that neither the Clerk nor any representative had served the Deputy Governor with such a notice. The letter concluded by urging Speaker Agbebaku to correct the public’s impression created during the plenary session to avoid misrepresentation in this crucial matter.
