George made these remarks while addressing reporters as part of his nationwide broadcast titled “My Thoughts on The State of Our Country in the Last 25 Years: A Time to Chart A New Direction.”

His comments were prompted by a recent statement by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the PDP’s 2023 Presidential candidate, indicating his willingness to withdraw his ambition in 2027 if the party selects the Labour Party Presidential candidate in 2023, Mr. Peter Obi.

George asserts that the principle of power rotation must be upheld as a fundamental principle, suggesting that the PDP should have learned from its defeat in 2023.

He elaborated, “Our party has a fundamental principle. The constitution of our party, crafted by the founding father, Baba Ekwueme (former Vice President Alex Ekwueme) and his team, should serve as our guiding principle.”

“We have suffered significant consequences for deviating from this rule. Let us learn from our mistakes. It has been too costly,” he emphasized.

Referring to Section 7 subsection 3C of the party’s constitution, George stressed the importance of adhering to zoning and rotation procedures for both party and elective positions to ensure effective governance.

He explained that the concept of power rotation, enshrined in the party’s constitution, aims to prevent any scenario that might lead to military intervention.

George highlighted that the founding fathers of the party delineated the country into six geopolitical zones to ensure representation for all ethnic groups and to foster a sense of inclusion.

“The root of the problem since 1960 lies between the majority tribes and minority tribes,” he remarked. “The majority tribe tends to dominate while the minority tribes are sidelined, leading to coups and counter coups.”

Moreover, George reiterated that the party’s founding fathers proposed that the top six positions in the country, including the Presidency, Vice Presidency, Senate Presidency, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and Chairman of the party, should be shared among the six geopolitical zones every eight years for fairness and equity.

He concluded by stating, “The moment we (the PDP) veered away from this principle officially, contrary to our fundamental principles, division within the PDP ensued.”
