INEC Fires Back: No Manipulation Of Voter Figures In Lagos — ADC’s Claims Baseless

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has rejected allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that voter figures in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) are being manipulated, dismissing the claims as unfounded.

The ADC had recently alleged that the online pre-registration process in Lagos and some other states was skewed to serve certain interests.

Responding on Monday, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity at INEC Lagos, Taiwo Gbadegesin, described the allegation as “a figment of imagination.”

“The Lagos registration figures are consistent with historical CVR patterns and reflect the state’s demographics — a youthful, tech-savvy population,” Gbadegesin explained.

He recalled that during the last CVR exercise between 2021 and 2022, Lagos recorded the highest number of registrations in the country, with voter figures rising from 6,570,291 to 7,060,195.

“The current trend aligns with this established pattern,” he added, noting that the numbers demonstrate INEC’s efficient deployment of resources and robust public enlightenment campaigns across Lagos.

Gbadegesin assured residents that the commission remains committed to transparency and inclusiveness.

“INEC has consistently promoted openness and accountability. Every eligible voter in Lagos will continue to have the opportunity to register freely, without manipulation,” he stated.
