During a media chat in Abuja on Friday, the governor argued that if bandits could easily acquire such weapons, then citizens should also have the right to do so for self-protection.

In his words, “If a bandit can freely acquire AK-47, RPG, and other weapons, why shouldn’t law-abiding citizens be allowed to possess them for self-defense? These individuals are currently obtaining these arms illegally, while we are striving to regulate their lawful ownership. Why can’t the government empower people to bear arms and address the security challenges they face?”

Governor Radda firmly rejected the notion of negotiating with bandits but expressed a willingness to consider dialogue and reintegration into society if the bandits voluntarily disarm and express a desire for peace.

He also highlighted the limitations faced by state governors in commanding the military, police, or civil defense, as they receive orders from higher authorities.

To enhance security efforts, Katsina State established an intelligence unit within the Katsina Community Watch Corps to address concerns and gather crucial information.
