Sources familiar with the discussions said key party stakeholders have been engaging Gawuna’s close political associates in a bid to secure his acceptance of the ADC ticket.

It was gathered that the party has reportedly offered political incentives, including opportunities for his loyalists to secure nominations for State House of Assembly and House of Representatives seats.

According to Daily Nigerian, the ADC is also said to have promised the former deputy governor strong financial backing for his campaign should he agree to defect and contest on its platform.

Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, and ex-Ambassador Faruk Yabo are reportedly among those leading negotiations aimed at bringing Gawuna into the party.

Although Gawuna had previously affirmed his loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya political movement, sources say the renewed pressure and offers from the ADC have prompted fresh consultations within his political camp.

The ADC is yet to formally announce the winner of its Kano governorship primary, which was contested by Ibrahim Khalil and Ibrahim Little. Party insiders suggest the delay is linked to ongoing efforts to reach a deal with Gawuna, whose entry is believed to significantly boost the party’s prospects in the state.

Gawuna, a former deputy governor of Kano State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in 2023, remains one of the prominent opposition figures in the state.

Political analysts argue that his strong grassroots support makes him a valuable target for parties seeking a formidable challenger to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in the 2027 elections.

He was also previously considered as a potential governorship candidate under the NDC before Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso settled for former deputy governor Aminu Abdussalam.
