The development is said to have followed the defection of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed from the PDP to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), which he announced on Saturday after consultations with political stakeholders.

Mohammed said his decision was influenced by the recent Supreme Court ruling on the PDP leadership crisis, which he claimed left the party without clear legal and organisational direction.

A PDP leader in the South-West, who is also an ally of the governor, told The PUNCH that Makinde could exit the party “at any moment,” though he was unsure of his next political destination.

“I am aware the governor may leave the party at any time, but I cannot say which platform he is heading to,” the source said.

Similarly, a senior member of Makinde’s cabinet confirmed that discussions were ongoing and that the governor was weighing his options before formally resigning from the PDP.

“The governor is preparing to leave the party. We are still in consultations and considering alternatives. We will ensure that the interests of Oyo State and our aspirants are protected,” the official said.

Another source from the Governor’s Office added that Makinde’s exit was imminent, claiming that aspirants had already been instructed not to purchase PDP nomination forms.

“The governor has directed all PDP aspirants not to obtain forms under the party. He and other leaders have already screened aspirants, except those from Oyo South Senatorial District. The next destination is likely the NDC or APM, and a final decision will be made next week,” the source said.

However, Makinde’s Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, dismissed the reports, insisting that the governor had not announced any plan to defect from the PDP.
