According to reports from Manica Post, Masocha delivered her baby boy on September 21, 2024, with the assistance of midwife Blessing Mutimbu. After the birth, Mutimbu confirmed the newborn’s gender as male, a detail that Masocha herself verified. Following the delivery, she breastfed her son and went to sleep, but was stunned to find a baby girl when she checked the nappies the next morning.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I checked the nappies. I was sure I had a son, and the hospital records confirmed it,” Masocha reportedly told authorities, expressing her shock over the unexpected switch.

Masocha was one of three women who gave birth at the hospital that day, and she was the only one to deliver a male child, adding to the mystery surrounding the incident as hospital records corroborate her claim of having had a baby boy.

In response to the mix-up, hospital officials and police are conducting DNA tests to ascertain the baby’s true identity and investigate how the error occurred. Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the situation and noted that inquiries are ongoing.

“On the evening of September 21, Ms. Masocha gave birth to a baby boy. The newborn was raised for sex confirmation, and the hospital records indicated the child as male. However, the next morning, Ms. Masocha discovered that the baby she had was a girl,” Chinyoka explained in a statement.

No suspects have been identified yet, but detectives are working diligently to uncover how the switch happened. DNA tests will be conducted on all involved parties to determine paternity and clarify the facts surrounding this incident.
