Onovo of the Enugu High Court for overturning the ban on their separatist group. They criticized the previous proscription of IPOB by Justice Abdul Kafarati as illegitimate, citing it as a result of the group’s advocacy for Biafra’s independence and Nigeria’s division in 2017.

Following the recent judgment, Justice Onovo ordered Southeast governors to pay a compensation of N8 billion to IPOB’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

In response, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, lamented the compromised integrity of some judges who, due to intimidation, have supported unjust measures against IPOB members.

He emphasized that these legal battles have exposed the inadequacies of Nigeria’s judiciary system and damaged its international reputation.

Powerful stated, “We, the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the exceptional leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu KANU, applaud the groundbreaking ruling by Hon.

Justice A. Onovo of Enugu State High Court on October 26, 2023, which lifted the illegitimate proscription imposed on IPOB.
