Is This Really ‘Intelligent’? Catholic Priest Slams Bwala Over Controversial Al Jazeera Interview

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Fr. Ugwu noted that Bwala seemed more focused on former presidential candidate Peter Obi than on the main interview topic. Bwala had previously claimed that Obi attempted to recruit him for his campaign, a proposition he said he declined.

The priest observed that Bwala, who had earlier criticized Al Jazeera for lack of professionalism, shifted the conversation to Obi during his discussion with Daddy Freeze. Fr. Ugwu suggested that Bwala was frustrated when he was not allowed to talk about Obi on the Al Jazeera platform.

“I just watched Bwala’s interview with Daddy Freeze. Is this the man many of you regard as intelligent? After accusing Al Jazeera of unprofessionalism, he immediately turned the focus to Peter Obi. It’s now clear he was hoping to discuss Obi with Mehdi,” he wrote.

Fr. Ugwu’s remarks come amid a flood of reactions to Bwala’s appearance on Al Jazeera’s Head to Head, hosted by Hasan, which analyzed President Bola Tinubu’s policies and performance. The interview went viral on social media, sparking widespread debate across Nigeria.
