It’s Not Just About APC — Wike Explains Tinubu’s Strategy For 2027 Re-Election
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has explained that the decision to include him and other politicians outside the All Progressives Congress (APC) in President Bola Tinubu’s campaign council reflects the president’s desire to secure support from beyond the ruling party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made this known on Tuesday during his monthly media parley in Abuja, where he said Tinubu recognised that individuals from other political parties also had contributions to make towards his re-election campaign.
According to the FCT minister, the arrangement was designed to accommodate supporters with different political affiliations who share the objective of helping Tinubu secure another term in office.
Wike described the campaign council as a collaboration between APC members and supporters of the president, arguing that the re-election effort should not be viewed exclusively as a project of the ruling party.
He cited Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as examples of political figures outside the APC who have been assigned coordination responsibilities within the campaign structure.
Soludo is expected to coordinate activities in Anambra State, while Adeleke has also been named as a coordinator despite not belonging to the ruling party. Wike said he would coordinate support for Tinubu in Rivers State and the FCT.
Explaining the rationale behind the arrangement, Wike said the president believed people who were not APC members but had something valuable to contribute should be given the opportunity to participate.
He said the inclusion of politicians from different political backgrounds demonstrated that Tinubu’s re-election campaign was intended to bring together a broader group of supporters.
Wike added that the presence of non-APC figures in the campaign council illustrated the willingness to work across party lines in pursuit of a common political objective.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Wike’s comments highlight the cross-party composition of Tinubu’s campaign council as political alignments continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
