Jonathan Meets Tinubu In Secret Aso Rock Talks, Sparks Fresh Speculation

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday paid a private visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The closed-door meeting has attracted public attention amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to The Nation, Jonathan arrived at the Presidential Villa and held a private discussion with President Tinubu. Neither the Presidency nor Jonathan’s representatives disclosed the purpose of the meeting, and no official statement was issued afterward.

The meeting comes amid recent developments involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) rejection of claims by the Kabiru Turaki-led faction that it manually submitted its list of candidates for the 2027 general elections, including Jonathan as its presidential candidate.

INEC maintained that all political parties are required to submit the names of their candidates exclusively through the commission’s designated electronic portal, casting doubt on the faction’s assertion that it resorted to manual submission after allegedly being denied access credentials.

Speaking in an interview with Leadership in Abuja on Friday, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Ita-Messi, said she could not verify whether the faction had submitted any list of candidates to the commission.

She, however, stressed that manual submission does not comply with the commission’s established nomination procedures.
